CON

Are You Biased?

Of course you are! We all are.

But you can still make steps to challenge what you think you know.

This project has been featured on the SVA Products of Design blog. The article can be found at productsofdesign.sva.edu/blog/con-platform

What does it mean to be biased?

A bias is a thought, idea, or mindset that changes how you perceive and interact with the world around you. It's something that influences the way you absorb new information and the way you put things out into the world.

As a human being, biases are unavoidable. They're part of who we are, but when we learn about different views we can grow our tolerance and consideration of others.

CON encourages participants to spend some time learning about a topic they dislike, and ask themselves what it is that they dislike about that thing and why.

Open your mind!

Allow yourself to absorb information that you don't agree with.

Spend some time thinking about things you don't like thinking about or acknowledging.

Learn something about a topic that you've always disliked, and ask yourself why you dislike it.

How it works

The way this challenge works is very simple:

1. Download the app

2. Find a tag on the map near your location

3. Explore the area until you find a CON installation

4. Pick your favorite of the two options and scan the code next to it

5. Follow the onscreen instructions to earn CON points

6. Relish in the feeling of personal growth

Thinking about things you don't like doesn't seem super fun to most people. We acknowledge that.

But what about having an excuse to explore a new area? Getting your daily steps? Learning new facts to wield at the next family trivia night?

It all about perspective, so let's get adventuring!

CON partners with local businesses so that as you challenge yourself, you also earn rewards. Some common reward items are coffee vouchers at local cafes, single day museum passes, and discounts at retail outlets. All participating companies are included on the CON treasure map, so they can be easily integrated into your journey.

Have you participated in CON and want to give back to the cause?

CON moderates a forum where community members can post suggestions for CON topics or installation locations. Participation from the community is what keeps CON going, so all contributions are appreciated!
